BLAST CLEANING OPTION FOR TUBES, PIPES AND CABLES
Formula 2000 variation handles long cylindrical, tubular or cable components
A variation on the Guyson Formula 2000 blast cabinet has been designed specifically to handle long cylindrical, tubular or cable components whilst blast finishing the surface encased in the cabinet.
The blast cabinet operates with a hinged lid at the rear of the machine, closing like a clam to encircle the component, which rests in semi-circular cut-outs in the base of the cabinet with matching cut-outs in the top half. These are lined with flexible rubber and produce an effective seal around the component stopping excessive escape of blast media. A recent example was produced for blast cleaning coupling points of 160mm diameter aluminium sheathed cable used in a military application.
For higher capacity blasting, a Guyson model 900 gun was fitted, coupled with a C400 Dust Collector. This is capable of keeping the blast cabinet environment clear over periods of prolonged or continuous use; good visibility is assisted by strong internal lighting.
The media stream from the blast gun is foot operated thus leaving both hands to control the gun nozzle and the component if it needs rotating. Alternatively the operator can use the cabinet's fixed gun holder and use both hands for manipulating the component. Extra large armholes are provided for maximum reach and operator comfort.
Both sides of the cabinet are equipped with a metal flap fitted with magnetic strips, which can be folded up to cover the hole and stop media escaping if a cable, pipe, or tube end needs to be blasted.
The cabinet and dust collector are fitted with lockable wheels so they can be manoeuvred along the pipe or cable to clean other sections if the component cannot be pulled or pushed through the cabinet because it is in a fixed position. Both are also fitted with fork-lift points which enable them to be lifted into difficult to reach positions in on-site operations, giving a truly mobile blast unit.
