NEW MEDICAL FINISHING NEWSLETTERS FROM GUYSON

Ultrasonic cleaning and surface preparation for medical device manufacturers The newsletters introduce Guyson's ultrasonic cleaning and surface treatment equipment for medical device manufacturers

Specialist finishing manufacturer Guyson International has recently produced two newsletters highlighting the benefits Guyson can bring to component manufacturers in the medical sector.

One newsletter covers blast finishing products and the other, spray wash and ultrasonic cleaning products. Both are available from Guyson's Customer Service Department (01756 799911) in either PDF or hard copy format.

Consistent surface finish
The surface preparation and treatment newsletter introduces the maintenance of surface topographic control as key to the functional and cosmetic appearance of medical devices and instruments, and explains how a consistent surface finish, measured typically in amplitude parameters (Ra, Rz), can be maintained within specific statistical control limits.

The Multiblast® RXS400 has been designed specifically for the work-cell manufacturing environment as in medical implant and instrument production. Typically this type of machine is quite quick to set up and the blast parameters can be stored in a menu system for later recall to aid consistency of product surface topography. Robot load or robot gun manipulation and post non-contacting surface finish measurement are options available. This system is ideal for companies that already use manual blasting and may be looking to improve surface preparation consistency whilst increasing throughput.

Stainless steel cabinets
Other blast finishing products featured include the Guyson Mediblast range of stainless steel blast cabinets which have been especially engineered for medical product manufacturers and laboratories where the introduction of ferrous contamination would be detrimental to the production process. Also introduced is a bench top blast cabinet which is especially suitable for dental labs and hospital departments involved in repairs of prosthetics.

For optimum operator comfort and productivity when long periods of time have to be spent blasting, Guyson showcases the Euroblast® ‘Select’ variable height, and the Euroblast SBP4 sit down, manual blast cabinets. Both allow operators to perform for longer periods with minimum levels of fatigue and improve blast coverage uniformity by having foot pedal operated blast control, leaving both hands free for component manipulation.

Ultrasonic wash with nitric acid passivation
In the medical cleaning newsletter, Guyson introduces its Microclean multi-stage ultrasonic aqueous wash systems, which are production proven for a range of applications including prosthetic implants manufactured in stainless steel, titanium or other alloys, and include built in nitric acid passivation with automatic top-up. These systems are for high volume manufacturers, but smaller precision cleaning and passivation systems are also available for those manufacturers with lower volumes.

Medical and optical lens components
Products showcased include Microsolve cleaning systems for precision stain free cleaning of medical/optical lens components to remove any traces of airborne dust, machining oil residues and finger prints from optics prior to an anti-scratch vacuum coating process. A Microsolve system is also being used for removing silicone oil from nasal intubation tubes in a clean room environment. Guyson's Kerry Microsolve systems use 3M™ Novec™ HFE (hydrofluoroether) or HFC (hydrofluorocarbon), which do not contain chlorine, do not deplete the ozone layer, and are fully compatible with SED regulations.

Guyson also highlights the key features and benefits of its extensive range of Kerry ultrasonic baths and tanks, all highly capable of delivering quality precision cleaning to the medical instrument manufacturer. Additionally it shows a Formula 750 hot power washer, which uses safe aqueous cleaning technology, and has replaced potentially harmful trichloroethylene in a medical component cleaning process.

Both newsletters underline the advantages of Guyson's ability to offer medical device manufacturers around the world a comprehensive range of surface cleaning, treatment and preparation systems from one supplier with blast finishing, spray wash and ultrasonic cleaning equipment.
