DRIVELINE COMPONENTS WASHED
Conveyorised Marr-Line systems wash transmission synchro rings
A leading manufacturer of roll-formed driveline components with an international automotive customer base have yet again chosen Guyson International as its preferred wash plant supplier. Three further Guyson Marr-Line single-stage wash machines have been installed in their prestigious West Country manufacturing facility.
Historically this quality of cleaning would have been achieved with solvent cleaning but modern aqueous detergent technology coupled with Guyson’s innovative design and build quality enables non-solvent cleaning to meet these high specifications of cleanliness.
This latest batch of conveyorised Marr-Line tunnel washers joins other well-proven Guyson cleaning machines to wash transmission synchro rings, which are transferred from the machining cell onto the stainless steel honeycomb conveyor of the Marr-Line and pass through the wash tunnel where they are washed by a powerful combination of pressure and high-flow cleaning solution.
A pump generating 4 bar of pressurised hot solution dislodges tenacious soils from the component surface and penetrates spaces beneath the low profile components, whilst a volume of 55 litres a minute effectively flushes and rinses away dislodged contaminant - all delivered though a series of quick release pipe work and spray jets that enable ease of maintenance, thus reducing downtime, essential for such a high production orientated operation.
After processing, the wash solution contains contaminants removed from the components consisting of mineral oils and swarf, and there is a constant need to improve component cleaner efficiency and extend the productive life of the oil splitting wash solution. Often these ‘split’ oils can be removed with an oil skimmer but as these are high volume production machines an oil skimmer is not suitable owing to the downtime necessary for it to be used. Instead quick release couplings are fitted to the wash tanks to enable an external coalescing tramp oil separator to be used.
The Guyson tramp oil separator draws contaminated wash solution continuously from the wash tank into the separator where a significant amount of tramp oil is removed by the combination of a coalescing media bed and an adjustable weir. The cleaned wash solution is returned to the tank.
