DEGREASING ELECTRICAL ROTORS

Conveyorised wash and dry machine treats 90 parts per hour
Rotors for degreasing on the conveyor of a Guyson two stage wash and dry Marr-Line
A world leader for electrical power generation and distribution equipment has recently installed a Guyson International Marr-Line two stage conveyorised aqueous wash and dry machine for degreasing electrical rotors. The heavy steel generator rotors are thoroughly cleaned of natural oil in a continuous and efficient manner at a rate of 90 parts per hour.

The Guyson Marr-Line combines an alkali detergent wash solution with a Vapour Corrosion Inhibition (VCI) additive for post cleaning rust inhibition. This combination efficiently removes a rape seed oil that lubricates the parts during a pressing operation used during assembly and must be removed before wire winding. Also it leaves the rotors protected for up to two weeks, an important consideration for the customer over weekends and shutdowns. During normal operation the small footprint washer helps rotor flow from one operation to the next in minutes.
Conveyor
The machine features a jigged indexing conveyor, strengthened along its length and manufactured from stainless steel with non-metallic component supports that accept a wide range of component sizes.

Wash section
The stainless steel pump draws the wash and VCI solution from the electrically heated 220 litre tank and delivers it through a completely stainless steel spray bar network surrounding the conveyor and the travelling component, with a substantial impact force. The used solution is returned through a removable filter basket to the tank to be re-heated and recirculated. The wash tank is equipped with a low water level sensor, which stops the pump and switches off the tank heating if the solution drops below a pre-determined level. To help prevent blockages an in-line 200-micron (washable element) filter is fitted between the pump and spray jets.

Drying section
A direct drive centrifugal fan delivers heated air (regulated by digital temperature controls) generated by a 9kW heater to a series of louvers positioned above and below the conveyor; the major percentage of this air is reheated and recirculated, the remainder is exhausted.

The out feed
A two-metre extension at the out-feed acts as a component accumulator, holding approximately ten components and allowing the process to continue until the conveyor has been fully loaded. A photoelectric cell prevents the conveyor from becoming over filled.
