AIRLESS BLASTERS FOR COST EFFECTIVE MOULD AND DIE CLEANING

Wheel blast systems use soft impact bead for cleaning without dimensional change

The costs of removing solidified and burnt mould lubricants and similar encrusted deposits from the sensitive surfaces of moulds and extrusion dies without damage or dimensional change are regularly under review by most mould workshop repair and maintenance managers.

Guyson International manufactures and sells a cost effective range of airless blast systems for high speed, high velocity mould and die cleaning. Each system is based upon the use of a fully automatic, rotary table, airless feed machine from the Turboblast® range in combination with a specially selected dry blast cleaning medium from Guyson's Flexgrain range of soft-impact metallic bead.

The major advantage of a Guyson Turboblast® system is its low operating costs. Manpower savings alone have been reported to be a major contributory factor in reducing the payback period of the capital cost of the machine. Process times are pre-selected and controlled through an electrical console. No compressed air is required and since all machine operations are totally enclosed, losses of cleaning media are negligible.

A typical Guyson Turboblast® T10 'wheel blaster' is equipped with a 1 metre, rotating table designed to process batches of components weighing up to 900kg. As the table revolves a high speed wheeled turbine continuously propels a high velocity flow of soft-impact metallic bead directly onto the rotating components. Complete saturation coverage of the total surface area is maintained during a timed blast cycle of only two to three minutes. All component surfaces are cleaned without damage or measurable dimensional change to any of the critical areas.

Some workshops take advantage of a much larger wheel blaster with a 1.4 metre table, whilst others with smaller outputs prefer the 500mm model or alternatively use a compressed air powered, manually operated beadblasting cabinet from the Guyson Euroblast® range. These have proved to be particularly versatile in the use of alternative low impact blast cleaning media and have created a wider range of mould and die cleaning opportunities where several new types of soft, non-abrasive media have proved suitable for cleaning the most sensitive surfaces including chrome plated, aluminium and steel tooling.
