The Bodycote Group is recognised as an international front line source of metallurgical services to industry. When faced with a demanding
finishing problem coupled with a tight delivery deadline for one of their Scandinavian companies, they approached Guyson International
Limited for a solution.
The requirement was to produce a high quality and thoroughly clean, low profile keying surface suitable for clear anodising at volumes that
would reach 3,000 units per day. The items involved were mobile telephone fascias, where a high quality and consistent appearance was vital.
Due to the delicate and light nature of the strips, component presentation though each process stage had to be assured.
Using Guyson expertise in both hot aqueous cleaning and bead blasting technology, an integrated in-line series of wash & blast stations
achieved exactly the finish required.
Starting with a 3-stage wash, rinse and dry Marr-Line, the fascia strips were firstly cleaned thoroughly, removing all traces of pressing
oil and general shop dirt. Then the strips were moved into a three chamber Multiblast® system, where firstly the back face and then the
front face were blasted all over with a very fine bead. In the final chamber, an air wash gently removed residual dust particles.
The whole system used sophisticated component handling, incorporating pick & place transfer to move the strips through the complete process
with a final return to front conveyor bringing them to the inspection and packing station.
