A position has become available at Guyson International Ltd for a:-

Control Systems Engineer


To be responsible for programming control systems on automated equipment involving PLCs, (Programmable Logic Controllers), and HMI’s, (Human Machine Interface’s). The CSE will work with the Engineering Team to produce logic and flow diagrams that complement all automated machine control systems. PLC/HMI program designs will be produced in accordance with agreed quality standards, delivery deadlines, and manufacturing targets.

To work with the Mechanical/Electrical Design and Test Engineers to help specify system hardware and to develop controls logic that will ensure correct machine functionality and system communication protocols. Good systems integration knowledge will be key to this role.

A key aspect of the role will be participation and support of engineering project reviews with key business stakeholders to establish the most effective and efficient processes and procedures during design, build, test and commissioning.


  • Support development of the control system / hardware specification during machine quotation phase.
  • Produce the PLC software code and machine communication protocols for all Guyson automated equipment.
  • To assist in carrying out internal testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), of Guyson equipment.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to the Engineering Team as part of an ongoing continuous improvement process.
  • Share information on best practices and improved methods of working.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and controls.
  • Assist Test Engineers with electrical and functional testing in accordance with identified system specifications, test procedures and work instructions.
  • To accurately record and report all required information and data within the agreed timescale.
  • Provide technical assistance to supporting departments were required.
  • On occasions be available to support commissioning of Guyson manufactured equipment at customer sites.


This is a permanent position, subject to a 3 month trial period.

  • 5 years of automation engineering or a time served engineer.
  • HNC/HND or degree qualified in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • Experience of PLC, HMI and SCADA programming, (ideally Mitsubishi & Siemens).
  • Experience / knowledge of robot control programming, (ABB, Fanuc).
  • Good systems integration experience, with an appreciation of mechanical and pneumatic functionality as well as electrical / electronic.
  • Methodical and logical approach to programming, system testing and problem solving.
  • Able to read and understand electrical schematic drawings.
  • Task orientated with a flexible attitude.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge in all aspects of the manufacturing processes associated with - wiring, assembly, test and fault finding etc.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work alone or as part of a small team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanour.

Hours: 37.5 hour week

Monday to Thursday - 8.30 am to 5.00 pm
Friday 8.30 am to 2.30 pm
with a thirty minute lunch break each day.
