Apprentice Customer Service Engineer

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To work in a junior role within the Customer Service Department, following a training programme that involves learning about the company’s products and processes from a commercial perspective.

MAIN DUTIES

The main duties that would be undertaken within Customer Service would initially be:

  • Processing customer orders through the company ERP system.
  • Maintenance of records and data on company computer systems and within manual filing systems following company guidelines.
  • Liaising with others both within the department and in other departments to ensure that any customer related issues are satisfactorily resolved.
  • To work under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Customer Services Executive, who will monitor and review standards on a regular basis.

TRAINING

The training will involve undertaking certain specific tasks within the Customer Service Department that are defined below, whilst a training programme that involves others from within the department and also other departments will be pursued.

Training would be “on the job” within Customer Service, with secondment to other departments to be organised with the relevant Departmental heads. The training will specifically include the following, as these are essentials for everyone working within Customer Service:

  • Good working knowledge of all manual equipment, including basic fault finding.
  • Good working knowledge of common applications for which equipment can be used, including making blast media recommendations.

It is expected that the training will last for a minimum of 12 months, the intention being that the Trainee becomes proficient and knowledgeable regarding company processes and procedures. This would allow the Trainee to move on into a revised role that expanded the range of duties and responsibilities within the Customer Service Department.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Good verbal and written communication skills plus the ability to deal with difficult situations and people.
  • Good commercial judgement.
  • Ability to use all relevant company computer software efficiently.
  • Interest in engineering applications, but full training will be given.
  • Would suit school leaver or someone looking to start a career in Customer Service/Engineering.

This is a permanent position, subject to a 3 month trial period.

Hours: 37.5 hour week

Monday to Thursday - 8.30 am to 5.00 pm

Friday - 8.30 am to 2.30 pm

with a half hour lunch break each day
